ABOUT US
Recognizing Michigan’s potential to become a national leader in key growth areas of the homeland security market, 16 leading companies, universities and other opinion leaders from across the state joined forces in 2008 to create the Michigan Security Network. This nonprofit organization now serves as a platform to accelerate technology development, investment and job growth for the state in the fast-growing homeland security sector.
The Michigan Security Network’s first task was to undertake a detailed analysis of the homeland security market and assess Michigan’s major competitive advantages in each segment of the market.
Armed with this research and the insight of its founding members, Michigan Security Network has developed a tightly focused strategy for leveraging the state’s research and development capabilities, highly trained workforce and geographic assets to accelerate business development and growth. The organization will serve as an advisor for entrepreneurs and established businesses to encourage commercialization of technology in cybersecurity, biodefense and border security and provide a platform to support homeland security decision makers.

More than half the total annual spending on homeland security, about $60 billion, is deployed through the private sector. With continued focus and commitment to executing our strategy, the Michigan Security Network firmly believes that Michigan has tremendous potential to grow its share of this new market.
